July 4th in Montgomery

We had planned to have a mini 4th of July beach vacation with Bon Bon, Papasan and Aunt Ricia but with the recent BP oil spill and the unknown conditions of the Gulf Coast, we opted for a mini family vacay on the river in Montgomery, AL.

The plan was to get loaded up and head down Friday July 2nd after work. We made our usual Chick Fil A stop and got some dinner, before heading to meet my family. We got down to the Renaissance Montgomery a little later than we had planned, plus had to unpack and spend some time visiting before hitting the hay at 11:30pm. Jillian was way past bedtime but that didn't seem to phase her usual happy self.

She didn't want to sleep in the pack in play so Ba-Ba ended up letting her fall asleep in one of the two bigger beds and then transferred her to the pack and play when she was fully asleep.

Saturday was relaxing and we ate breakfast in Bon Bon and Papasan's room. We planned to head out around lunchtime to find a place to eat. We opted for Wintzell's for some good seafood and it was open. After a yummy lunch, we went back to the room for Jillian's nap. Ba-Ba and Da-Da opted for a nap too and slept til almost 5pm. It was so nice and much needed.

Saturday evening started with Thai food at the Lek's Railroad Thai on the Riverfront. The meal was so-so and we decided to walk around downtown to check things out at the downtown 4th of July Street Party. They had vendors, jump inflatables and a couple of bands playing music.

Here are Aunt Ricia and Da-Da walking (sort of) with Jillian.

After the street festival/party, we headed back to our room for some zzzs.

Sunday, July 4th started off as another relaxing day including eating breakfast in Bon Bon and Papasan's room, going to the pool to swim, lunch back at Wintzell's (because everywhere else we tried wasn't open), little walk around downtown, then getting ready for July 4th fireworks while riding a boat on the river. Since most restaurants were closed, we went to Wintzell's AGAIN. Thank goodness we like seafood and they do have a token chicken dish for Aunt Ricia.

The fireworks started around 9pm and lasted about 10 minutes. The boat ride was about 2 hours roundtrip and Jillian was not too keen on being trapped on the deck of the boat. We got back and went back to the rooms to get ready for bed.

The next morning was spent eating breakfast in Bon Bon and Papasan's room and getting ready to leave. We had lunch plans with Great Grandmother and Great Aunt Coleen around 11am at Ala Thai Restaurant.

Here are a few pictures from the lunch visit. We were so happy that they were able to meet us for lunch!!!

After lunch, we headed back home to get ready for the rest of the work week. It was a great mini vacation spent with good family fun with McDonalds and Philpotts.
